My name is Mikel Ellcessor. I'm an independent producer and I put together teams to help people with their original podcast strategy. I do content strategy and integrated communications work, too.

I'm from Dayton, Ohio. Think of it as Detroit with a thicker low end - a wild mix of the Wright Brothers, The Ohio Players, and General Motors. When I was a kid, Dayton was a place where they manufactured the future.

I was thinking about the future when I helped launch my first radio station at 22.

It was on my mind when Jad Abumrad and I co-founded Radiolab.

Same in 2005 when we turned On The Media into a podcast, giving birth to WNYC's first on-demand audio strategy.

Lately, the future is about paying for podcasts. Through focused experimentation and hard work, I led a team that raised almost 6 million dollars through podcasts from regular folks. The lessons learned are ready to be applied.

Life is more than podcasts, though. I've also been fortunate enough to have launched several radio stations and helped some very smart, passionate people grow their audiences and brands. We did it by making meaningful content that forged deep connections in the listeners' lives.

Podcasts are growing in popularity, and the upward curve looks great, but it's a continuum. We don't really know where this is going to go, but I believe the best is yet to come. It's a great time to be making original work. I'd be honored to speak with you about your ideas.

Thanks for stopping by.
